Wednesday 30 December 2009

Hello. It's me.

I think I should probably introduce myself.  I'm Phil.  In 2009 I spent much of my time blogging here, but I'm not going to do so much of that now.  I will pop up on here from time to time, but mostly you can see what I'm up to on Twitter.  I'm @evilflea, and I'll be using the hashtag #raok365 when I do nice things.

That's probably all you need to know for the moment.  Happy New Year!

picnic in the park

I visited with some ladies (two attorneys, their staff and a few family members) in Coconut Grove this morning to make sandwiches and prepare bags full of goodies. Then we drove to the middle of downtown and unloaded our trucks near a public park.

We approached a few people with backpacks who looked like they'd been living on the streets and asked, "Would you like to have some lunch?" One guy in a wheelchair opened his bag and said, "OMG, a Coke! I haven't had one of these in years!" It was awesome!

I had never done anything like this before, but now I'd like to make it a monthly event (weekly, if possible). I'll let you know the next time it happens.

PS - I know I started early, but I wanted to share this with you. :)

And now there are 5...

Yes, there are now 5 of us on this journey. 4 girls, one boy. 3 Brits, two Americans. And potentially a whole lot of RAoKs (1825, all being well).

Since starting thinking about this, I have found my eyes have re-opened to the chances for RAoKs that abound all around us. For the words and deeds that can make our world a little brighter. For the effort and time and thought that we can put in to help someone else, whether they are a stranger, or someone we know and love deeply.

I'm so excited for this journey to begin!

Oh, and if you'd like to join us, please do just email at raok365@googlemail.com. The more the merrier, for sure!

Love,
Cxx

PS Can you believe it's nearly Christmas? I may do some Christmassy RAoKs as a warm up!

Sunday 6 December 2009

Hello!

You look lovely today, can I just say that?

I'd like to reiterate the thanks to Miss Claire, and just wanted to say I am very excited to be joining this RAoK365 journey.

I hope it will give us all many happy experiences and take us on some interesting adventures!

Hurrah!

Love your shoes btw,

Vixie

Friday 4 December 2009

First, thanks to Claire for the fabulous idea! I wanted to do something of this nature, but apparently needed the inspiration from someone else to get started!

Second, this is so exciting! Like Claire, I LOVE RAoK-ing, but tend to forget about it and then realize weeks later that I hadn't made any conscious effort to perform RAoKs. I'm really looking forward to the challenge. My goal is to not only perform RAoKs, but to come up with new and creative ones that will force me to step out of my comfort zone. So in an effort to prepare/train for 365RAoK, I'm working on doing more RAoKs during December (a month that welcomes kindness and surprises!), and starting an RAoK idea list.

So, I say, bring on the challenge! I second Claire's invite to anyone that wants to join us! Plus, I would also welcome any ideas. I'm sure at some point during the year I'll fall short of new ideas, so any suggestions will be welcome.

Have a brilliant weekend!

Em

365 random acts of kindness

It begins.

You sit there, making notes for, let's say, an assembly.

You're talking about kindness, and helping, and Join Me (the kindness collective you're part of), and the joy of RAoKing. For the uninitiated, a RAoK is a "random act of kindness", and Joinees (of which I am one) try to do one every Friday. We call them "Good Fridays".

Anyways, you get to thinking about RAoKing. And you think, why once a week? Why not more often? Why not every day? WHY NOT EVERY DAY FOR A WHOLE YEAR???

And lo, RAoK 365 was born.

365 RAoKs. In a year.

And now, it's not just me...my dear friend Emily's up for the challenge also.

Bring on January 1st and the RAoKing, say I!

Cxx

PS If you'd like to join us, do drop me an email...the more the merrier!
